Sunnyside Shines Again is an urban redesign project focused on transforming Bliss Plaza and the surrounding streets of Sunnyside, Queens into a more vibrant, welcoming public space.
Our team envisioned the site as a retreat within the city, a place where nature, relaxation, and community activities coexist. Inspired by the atmosphere of a quiet forest shelter, we designed a flexible public space that encourages both everyday rest and seasonal events.
The design allows visitors to freely customize and interact with the space while blending seamlessly with the neighborhood's existing landmarks. By combining natural elements with adaptable features, the project creates a warm, inviting environment that strengthens the connection between people, place, and community.
